Hundreds of passengers traveling to Amsterdam were stuck on a Eurostar train in London for hours. AdvertisementSome 700 passengers were left stranded after a Eurostar train broke down 30 minutes after leaving London's St Pancras station on Thursday, reported the BBC. Ben Williams, a passenger on the train, told The Independent that four or five hours after the train broke down, passengers were each offered one free item of food. A French Festival Focuses (Timidly) on English

As soon as the Portuguese director Tiago Rodrigues took over at the Avignon Festival, France’s biggest theater event, he announced a symbolic move: Under his direction, there would be a special focus on a different language every year, starting, this summer, with English. There was wincing from some quarters: To many in France, English is already far too culturally dominant. Of several dozen productions in the official lineup of this year’s festival, which runs through July 25, only six plays are predominantly in English. So far, however, the most intriguing discovery has been the sole American entry, “Baldwin and Buckley at Cambridge,” from Elevator Repair Service. From tables on opposite sides of the stage, Greig Sargeant (Baldwin) and Ben Williams (Buckley) spar with effective solemnity.

The North Carolina Department of Justice announced it would not charge Meadows or his wife with voter fraud. But most significantly, prosecutors pointed to a provision in North Carolina state law that allows public servants to maintain their residency in the state while serving as a public servant. But while Stein declined to prosecute Meadows, his statement included a lengthy condemnation of the former Trump chief of staff for making unfounded allegations of voter fraud and his involvement in the events of January 6, 2021. "Mr. Meadows has made numerous unfounded, damaging allegations about voter fraud both before and after the 2020 election," said Stein. Meadows declined to comment through his spokesman Ben Williamson.
Hutchinson told the panel that her Trump-aligned lawyer advised her to mislead lawmakers. ""Look, we want to get you in, get you out," Hutchinson said Passantino told her before the appearance. Reach out to them," Hutchinson told the panel, paraphrasing what Passantino told her of a job offer connected to former top Trump aide Jason Miller. Hutchinson said she told Farah, who was also a former House aide, to back channel with the January 6 committee. Former Trump White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson arrives for her public testimony in front of the January 6 committee.
The historian Chris Whipple said Mark Meadows was the worst White House chief of staff in history. The author Chris Whipple, who has interviewed dozens of White House chiefs of staff, said that Cassidy Hutchinson's shocking testimony before the House January 6 committee has made it abundantly clear that Mark Meadows is by far the "worst" White House chief of staff in history. On December 19, the panel released an executive summary of its findings that was harshly critical of Meadows' book "The Chief's Chief." Whipple wrote the literal book on White House chiefs of staffABC's George Stephanopoulos interviews the author Chris Whipple in 2017. "I've said oftentimes that being White House chief of staff is perhaps the second most powerful job in Washington, D.C.
Good Meat served its "cultivated" chicken at the UN climate summit in Egypt. Cultivated meat is getting attention at the UN's COP27 meeting because at least 14% of global greenhouse-gas emissions come from animal agriculture, largely driven by beef and dairy cattle. Good Meat went to great lengths to get its "cultivated" chicken served in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, where the COP27 meeting is taking place. The restaurant 1880 in Singapore sold two dishes with Good Meat's chicken for $23, but the revenue from that still isn't enough to make Good Meat profitable. But it will take a whole lot of "cultivated" chicken to offset the world's poultry obsession.
National Democrats were fairly happy on Election Day as they dodged a predicted trouncing at the polls, but state Democrats might have even more to celebrate. And Democrats appear on track to flip the state House in Michigan, as well as in Pennsylvania and Minnesota, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), the nonpartisan organization that represents legislative chambers. Democratic wins this cycle signals a shift in state legislative priorities that could have major ramifications on contentious issues. The Republican-controlled state legislatures in Pennsylvania and Michigan had entertained election denial conspiracies after the 2020 election, for example. "Success does beget success," she said, noting that many state legislative candidates outperformed those competing at the federal level.
